Britam Foundation Hosts an In-Person Event for Mums in the Lea Salama Maternal Healthcare Program
Britam Foundation, in partnership with Malaica and Carolina For Kibera (CFK), recently hosted an impactful event for mothers enrolled in the Lea Salama maternal healthcare program, aimed at making maternity care more affordable, safe, and accessible. The program currently serves 300 women in underserved communities who lack access to health insurance, providing essential maternal support and resources.
During the event on October 19, 2024, held at the Swahiba Networks Connection Centre Hall in Kibera, Catherine Karita, Director of Strategy and Investor Relations at Britam, highlighted the key benefits the mothers receive through this partnership. Key offerings under the Lea Salama program include:
- Telehealth Support: A hybrid of online and in-person outreach that equips mothers with nutritional guidance, emotional support, and myth-busting sessions, complemented by webinars featuring leading medical professionals in Kenya.
- Affordable Maternal Care: The partnership provides subsidized rates of Ksh 700 for ultrasounds and Ksh 300 for antenatal scans.
- Extended Postnatal Care: Six months of free postnatal care with daily SMS updates, guiding mothers through newborn symptoms and developmental milestones.
- Early Clinic Awareness: Encouragement to start antenatal care early to address potential health issues for mother and baby.
- No-Cost Delivery: Free normal delivery services at Tabitha Maternity home at CFK paid be Britam Foundation.
- Financial Literacy Talks: Free financial empowerment sessions to help mothers navigate their maternal journeys with financial confidence.
