Britam Foundation Powers Sustainable Water Access at St. Veronica Giuliani Primary School
On 23rd September 2024, Britam Foundation, in collaboration with Davis & Shirtliff, installed a solar-powered borehole pump at St. Veronica Giuliani Primary School in Machakos County. This project, under the Lea Salama Initiative, focuses on advancing holistic well-being and early childhood education through sustainable energy solutions.
With 400 students, the school struggled to afford the electricity required to pump water from its 200-meter deep borehole, making access to clean water unreliable. Most of the parents come from humble backgrounds, and rising electricity costs were beyond their means.
The installation of a solar-powered system now ensures a sustainable water supply, critical for improving student health by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases. This, in turn, allows children to spend more time in school, enhancing their educational experience.
By integrating solar power, the project supports the school’s shift to more environmentally conscious operations, while also promoting the holistic development of its students through improved physical well-being and learning conditions.
